THE SUNDAY DINERS GRAND FOOD & FUN TOUR OF SAVANNAH!
This Spring, we took a vacation to Savannah, Georgia. Savannah is lots of fun and has lots of things to see and do. It is a great city for exploring, walking and especially… eating! The people are very nice and friendly and don’t seem stressed. If you’re planning on visiting, these are some of our favorite places. Part II will be all about our favorite Diner in Savannah.
HAVE BRUNCH AT THE FIREFLY
The first question our server asked me when we sat down was “Do you like Cinnamon Buns!” I said, “YES PLEASE!” Firefly makes theirs fresh and the are served hot from the oven. I also had the Crab Eggs Benedict, which were delicious. It’s also nice to sit outside and enjoy your meal.
EAT BREAKFAST LIKE A LOCAL AT HENRY’S!
HENRY’S RESTAURANT; 28 Drayton Street, Savannah, GA
Henry’s Restaurant is a great spot for people on-the-go. The breakfasts are tasty, big and are served fast. That’s why it’s popular with the locals especially Savannah’s Finest! I had Cinnamon Bread French Toast – which was very good. It was fun to meet Henry, the owner, and our new friend, Sgt. Torrance Garvin from the Savannah Police Department.
HAVE A BURGER… OR TWO!
B&D BURGER; 13 Broughton St., Savannah, GA
If you like burgers, B&D Burger has 18 different ones to try! Or, you can build your own combo. Really tasty, because they use fresh Angus Beef. B&D is a fun place to eat, there are lots of cool alligator pictures, statues and stuff decorating the place.
GREEN TRUCK PUB; 2430 Habersham Street, Savannah, GA
EAT SOME AWARD-WINNING BBQ AT WILEY’S
Wiley’s Championship BBQ; 4700 Highway 80 East Savannah, GA
Savannah is famous for their barbecue, and Wiley’s is one of the best. They have won lots of awards and have been on Food Network. Be prepared to wait a little while, like Green Truck, it’s very popular – but it is definitely worth it!
TRY AWESOME SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN AT JOHNNY HARRIS
Johnny Harris;1651 E. Victory Drive; Savannah, GA
Johnny Harris is one of the oldest restaurants in Savannah, and their specialty is Southern Fried Chicken. The chicken is really crispy and tender. You might want to sit in the kitchen cause that’s where the action takes place… Save room for dessert, and be sure to take home some of their famous BBQ sauce.
LEOPOLD’S FOR THE BEST ICE CREAM IN SAVANNAH!
Leopold’s Ice Cream; 212 E. Broughton St.; Savannah, GA
Leopold’s is the spot to be to cool off from Savannah’s hot sun. Because it’s right next door to a movie theatre, it is decorated with all sorts of movie cameras and things that are used in making movies and autographed pictures of stars. The ice cream is homemade tasty, creamy and COLD! They have all sorts of unique flavors… like Lavender, Cherry Blossom, Thin Mints & Cream… and even one made with… Guinness Beer???
YOUR MOUTH WILL WATER AT SAVANNAH’S CANDY KITCHEN
Savannah Candy Kitchen; 225 East River Street, Savannah, GA
There’s almost as many types of Candy at Savannah Candy Kitchen as there are stars in the universe! Their specialties are their home-made Candy Apples and all different kinds of Pralines — I had the Candy Apple — It was SWEEEEEEET!
FLY TO PLANET FUN!
PLANET FUN; 23 E. Broughton Street, Savannah, GA
Planet Fun is an awesome toy shop that specializes in vintage video games, Star Wars, Pokemon, Comic Book Stuff and just plain fun things!
NO TRIP TO THE SOUTH IS COMPLETE WITHOUT A VISIT TO… PIGGLY WIGGLY!
